Award To Honor The Best American Distance Running Coach With $10,000
Austin, TX (Nov. 17, 2016) – FloSports today announced a new award in partnership with T-Mobile to recognize the best American distance running coach. The FloTrack American Distance Coach of the Year, presented by T-Mobile, will award $10,000 to the winning coach to help support their work with American distance runners.
The global leader in track and cross country coverage, FloTrack has teamed with T-Mobile, America’s Un-carrier, to shine a light on the unsung heroes of American distance running. Unlike professional coaches in many other countries, coaches in the U.S. often double as college coaches, or they’re sponsored by a single shoe company.
The goal of the award is to give the winning coach additional resources to support their athletes in 2017, which could include paying for travel to meets abroad, fancy training equipment, or expensive medical care. This year’s award is focused on distance running, but the scope of the award could expand in future years.
“As a former college track athlete who has been involved with the sport for more than a decade, I know first-hand how much dedication coaches in the U.S. put in for their runners to compete on a worldwide level,” FloSports co-founder and COO Mark Floreani said. “We’re proud to join T-Mobile in creating this award, which will give the winning coach additional resources to help their athletes succeed.”
The process for nominating winners will be based on a combination of criteria, including achievements on the track such as records and medals, as well as the improvement of their runners. A combination of votes from fans, experts and FloTrack staff will be used to select the winning coach.
